Top 10 European Countries Wind Power Generation in January 2023
According to data from Electrend , in January 2023, the top 10 countries in Europe generated a total of 46.4 TWh of wind power (1 TWh=1000 GWh), with the top 10 countries accounting for 90.6% of the total wind power generation in Europe that month.
Germany's wind power generation in January was 17.4 TWh, accounting for 34.1% of Europe's wind power generation in that month, a year-on-year increase of 9%; Germany's renewable energy transformation is at the forefront of Europe, with the proportion of renewable energy in Germany reaching 52% in January. Among them, wind energy accounts for 75% of renewable energy, while solar and hydro energy respectively account for 4%. This is also related to the complementary role of wind and solar energy. January is the period when wind energy plays a major role.
Spain's wind power generation in January was 7.3TWh, accounting for 14.3% of Europe's wind power generation in that month, a year-on-year increase of 38%. In January, wind energy accounted for 56% of renewable energy generation in Spain, and it was not until after April that it was replacd by solar energy.
In January, wind energy in France increased by 83% year-on-year to 5.5TWh, which is inseparable from France's urgent transformation from nuclear power to renewable energy generation in recent years.
In terms of wind power generation, European countries have been affected by the transformation of renewable energy, showing a collective growth trend. Italy and Sweden, which are declining, mainly benefit from their superior hydraulic resources and shift their focus towards the constructive use of hydropower.
